Happy New Year Everyone!
We hope that your holidays were wonderful! We are slowly but surely trying to restore order and get 2009 off with a bang. We have had several calls wanting to know if we are alive and well because we haven't sent out an email or updated the blog. Fear not, we ARE doing fine and are ready to start the new year. We have been working on many new ideas for you and hope to get you as excited as we are.
First of all, let us explain our objectives for 2009. Last year with the addition of the Kit Club and the continuation of periodic copy crops, we focused on helping you catch up on a backlog of scrapbooking. We wanted you to be able to scrapbook fast and easy. We still feel a need from many of you to be able to scrap that way, so we're still going to do our best to see that happen. We also have new ideas to help you grow in other areas of scrapbooking.
In our classes, we know that it is difficult for you to physically attend every class that we offer. In the past we have tried to make it easy for you, especially understanding that many of you live out of town, by allowing you to sign up for classes and simply purchasing the kits when you cannot attend. The problem has become that it has grown to the point that attendance at classes is at an all time low. Signup is still fine in most classes, but actual attendance is very unacceptably low. As teachers, we cannot TEACH new concepts and techniques by simply putting a photograph and instructions in a kit. So in 2009, there will be new classes that will be advertised with the description ATTEND ONLY. These classes will be more in-depth and could possibly take longer to complete. In some cases, tools and supplies may be used that will not be available for use once the class is over. Kits will not be sold for these classes, attendance is required. We are excited about this new concept to be added to our calendar so that you have the opportunity to come and learn new things as well as produce pages for your albums that really have that WOW factor that faster scrapbooking sometimes leaves behind.
Most of all, remember that scrapbooking is supposed to be FUN. It's not supposed to be overwhelming, and it's not supposed to be a burden, financially or otherwise. It's OUR HOBBY, and it's OUR TIME away from all the stresses in our lives. We've started it for our families and their families for years to come, so let's keep it going -- remember, it's always cheaper and easier than THERAPY!!!! LOL
So in 2009, you will be able to find the following opportunities:
CLASSES - Our typical classes range from $12-$20 depending on what is offered. If you cannot attend the class, you can purchase a kit for the class, which is now called CLASS TO GO. The CLASS TO GO will contain materials needed to complete the class layout, a photograph and instructions. You should register for the class if you would like to purchase a CLASS TO GO. A supply list is listed on the instruction sheet, and you are asked to review the supply list and purchase anything that you need when you come to pick up your kit. Classes must be paid in advance and a minimum of 5 students must attend for the class to make.
We also need for CLASS TO GO kits to be paid and picked up in a more timely fashion. In 2009, if your CLASS TO GO kits are not paid and picked up at least one week after class has occurred, the kit will go out for sale. Students who cannot attend and live out of town may mail a check at any time. PLEASE understand that failure to pay for classes results in teachers not being paid, ultimately resulting in less classes and product being ordered.
CLASS TO GO - Formerly referred to as "class kits." See above description. Sometimes classes are only CLASSES TO GO, they are never offered as a physical class that you can come to. CLASSES TO GO are priced the same as a physical class because they are equipped with photograph of layout and complete instructions.
CLASS/ATTEND ONLY -- Classes that are more in-depth, may contain paper piecing, or other elements that require a teacher's leadership. CLASSES TO GO are NOT offered for these classes. Attendance is required.
CROPS -- Crops are times set aside where scrapbookers can come and work on whatever they would like to - there is no instruction or "class." Whether it is a Friday Night Crop or an All Day Crop, you're sure to have a lot of fun and get a lot of work done.
COPY CROPs -- Copy Crops are very special crops indeed! Our teachers will have prepared layouts, and each layout will have kits made containing everything needed to complete that layout. You purchase any and all of the layouts that are available and complete them while you are at the crop (preferably). If you do not finish, it is your responsibility to take a photograph of the original layout and make notes so that you can finish the layouts at home. Of course, you can finish them at the store, but you should plan to do so in a very timely manner as the original layouts will stay at the store only a short period of time. The copy crops are very affordable, typically all are priced under $7.50 for a double page. They are more simple in design and product than a class layout would be.
5-10-15s -- Back by popular demand, in February 2009, the 5-10-15 Fridays will give you an opportunity to come by the store and complete a double page layout for $5, which contains approximately 10 elements, and takes typically 15 minutes to complete. Again, an affordable fast track approach to getting caught up in 2009. Look for 5-10-15 Fridays on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. Like Copy Crop layouts, 5-10-15 layouts are more simple in design and product than a class layout would be. Remember, bring your basic supplies because on 5-10-15 Fridays, you must do the layout at the store.
KIT CLUB -- For a new double page layout each week, join our Kit Club. Now in our 2nd year, we're going strong and very excited about things to come. We're starting 2009 with a calendar page each month, and layouts that hopefully will hit you where you live, and everything around your life activities. If you'd like to join, we will sign you up! The layouts are $10 per week, or $40 per month plus tax ($42.90). You can come by and pick up your kits whenever you're by the store. We do ask that you leave a credit/debit card number with us - we will only run the card if the kits are not paid by the 15th of the month. When you are a kit club member, you can stay current with your scrapbooking. If you join at the beginning of January and carry thru, you don't have to worry about 2009's basic activities. That's done! You can then concentrate on the big things that make you feel overwhelmed about your scrapbooking. Call the store for more information.
ICC CLASSES -- We teach scrapbooking continuing education classes thru Itawamba Community College, all located at Scrapbooks & More. Teachers, you can earn Continuing Education credit for these. These classes include a basic level called Discovering Scrapbooking, an Album Class where you complete a 20 page album; a very fast-paced class where you complete 32 pages in 4 nights called "Power"; and various others at different times. See our schedules for offerings each semester.
We try to keep a fresh variety of layouts hanging in the store with new product. You are always invited to come to the store to copy the new layouts and photograph the layouts when you purchase the merchandise. You are also welcome to come and crop any day that the store is open for business at no charge. We love the company!
